Getting Started with Provenance

Data provenance is the record of the flow of data within a project. In short, it's the story of your project: what you did, what you used, what resulted. It does this by showing the relationship a file or source has to other files or sources in your project. These relationships are created and expressed through  activities, and when the output of an activity is also the input of another activity, a chain is created. Ovation makes it easy to see those chains on the project level, so you can see the whole story of how data has evolved and flowed through your project, from sources like cells or study participants, through experiments and analyses, to the final manuscript or figure.

To visit any file, source, or activity shown in the provenance graph, click its title. And to see the relationship a file or source has both before or after it, click on the rectangle that represents that entity.
